Apophyllite is a complex Potassium-Calcium Silicate formed in association with Zeolite minerals in basaltic rocks.

The name apophyllite comes from the Greek ἀποφυλλίζω apophylliso, meaning “it flakes off”.

It is a reference to this class’s tendency to flake apart when heated due to water loss.
