Selenite occurs on every continent and is the most common sulfate mineral.
The mineral gypsum has crystal habit varieties, including selenite, satin spar, desert rose, and gypsum flower.
Some of the largest crystals ever found are of selenite; the largest specimen was found in the Naica Mine’s Cave of the Crystals. It is 12 metres long and weighs 55 tons.
