Description
Colombianite (Calitites).
Colombianite (Calitites) is a Tektite: SiO2 and Al2O3
Source: Cali Crater, Cali, Colombia, South America
Colombianites are transparent, gemmy, light smoky grey tektites exhibiting conchoidal surface.
Created by the fall of a large meteorite, they are 5 million years old (which was the Pliocene Epoch)
Colombianite is a sacred stone of the Colombian Indians from the Muisca tribes.
The Indians call it “Piedra Rayo”, which means “Stone of Lightning” or “Light Stone”.
Colombian Shamans use it in their rituals as a means of communication with the god.
They also use it for prophetic visions.
It is much rarer than Moldavite, and in scientific circles, its origins were an enigma; now, they are classed as Tektites.
